What are Probiotics?

“Probiotic” means, literally, "for life." As defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), a probiotic is a living microorganism that, when administered in adequate amounts, confers a health benefit on its host. For hundreds of years, dairy foods and supplements containing live cultures have been touted as having beneficial properties, and scientific studies now support many of these claims.

Most probiotic cultures are bacteria that are "friendly" species like the L. bulgaricus B-30892 (LBB) in Pro.Bio.MAX™. For a culture to be considered genuinely probiotic, it must be safe to consume, both remain alive and be present in a high enough quantity through the product’s shelf life, and provide a beneficial effect. LacPro™ guarantees that Pro.Bio.MAX™ will contain at least 30 billion units of live, beneficial LBB in each 10-ounce serving of Pro.Bio.MAX™, meeting all those requirements in order to help maintain healthy intestinal flora. Pro.Bio.MAX™ is the only product in the world that contains LBB.
